Key points at a glance

- New patients almost always search locally, e.g. for “dentist near me” or “implants Hamburg”.
- The Google Business Profile decides whether your practice appears on the map.
- Dedicated treatment pages with a location reference bring patients for exactly the services you want to expand.
- Consistent practice data on all platforms helps Google and AI systems classify your practice correctly.

Anyone looking for a new dentist almost always starts on Google. At the top are three practices on the map, below them the regular search results. Most patients choose between these first results. Local SEO ensures that your practice appears there – for the treatments that are economically important to you.

In this guide you’ll find ten measures that have proven effective for dental practices.

## The Google Business Profile

### 1. Complete the profile in full

Practice name, address, phone number, website and opening hours must be complete and up to date. Enter holidays and public holidays so patients don’t arrive at a closed door. Information on accessibility and parking is also often searched for by patients.

### 2. Choose the right categories

The primary category should be “Dentist”. Additional categories such as “Orthodontist” or “Implantologist” only help if you actually offer these services and are qualified accordingly.

### 3. Show real photos

Photos of the practice, reception, treatment rooms and team lower the threshold, especially for anxious patients. Profiles with current photos look more alive and are clicked more often.

### 4. Collect reviews fairly

Reviews are a key decision criterion for patients. Actively and politely ask satisfied patients for a review, for example with a QR code at reception. Don’t offer anything in return, and reply to reviews factually without revealing health data.

## The practice website as the foundation

### 5. One page per treatment

Implantology, prophylaxis, cosmetic dentistry, paediatric dentistry or treating anxious patients: every important service should have its own page. Anyone searching for “implants Düsseldorf” expects a page that explains exactly that. A general service overview hardly ranks for such searches.

### 6. Add the location naturally

Mention the city, district or neighbourhood where it fits naturally: in the page title, in the introduction, in the directions. Pages with swapped town names and otherwise identical text, on the other hand, bring little and can do harm.

### 7. Use structured data

With schema markup of the type “Dentist”, search engines unambiguously recognise your practice’s address, opening hours and services. FAQ markup can also help you get named in AI answers. More on our [GEO / AI Search](https://wpressprofis.de/en/geo/) page.

### 8. A fast, mobile website

Most patients search on their smartphone. Load time, a clearly visible phone number and an appointment button decide whether a visit turns into an appointment.

## Platforms and directories

### 9. Consistent practice data

Name, address and phone number must be exactly the same everywhere: on the website, in the Google profile and on all platforms. Different spellings confuse Google.

### 10. The important platforms per country

- **Germany:** jameda, Doctolib, Gelbe Seiten and Das Örtliche.
- **Austria:** DocFinder and Herold.
- **Switzerland:** OneDoc, local.ch and search.ch.

Focus on maintaining the profiles that patients in your region actually use. A complete profile on two relevant platforms brings more than half-finished entries on ten.

## Specifics in Austria and Switzerland

In Austria, patients often search specifically for “Kassenzahnarzt” or “Wahlzahnarzt”. Make clear in your profile and on your website which insurers you bill. In Vienna, people often search by district, e.g. “Zahnarzt 1070”.

In Switzerland, dental treatments are usually paid privately. Transparent information on cost estimates and supplementary insurance is therefore a strong argument – also for Google, because this is exactly what patients search for.

## How long does it take for Local SEO to work?

Improvements to the Google profile often take effect within a few weeks. New treatment pages and reviews usually need two to six months before they are noticeably reflected in appointment requests. Nobody can guarantee a specific ranking, but the likelihood increases with every measure implemented.
